Turnip the Beet

Hand dyed and handwoven by Nicki Rathert

OOAK, 4.7 meters, plus short knotted fringe
100% hand dyed
Supima cotton warp
10/2 Georgia cotton weft

Turnip the Beet was inspired by the way my family likes to enjoy our garden. When everything is full of blooms and laden with ripening veggies, we grab a picnic blanket and the radio, and head outside. Sitting near all the plants we have grown and sharing our favorite music is something I look forward to all year long!

I created this piece by hand dyeing two different types of cotton, one for warp and one for weft. While weaving, I mirrored the design in the warp by changing weft colors every 8 to 16 times I threw the shuttle. The result is the happiest plaid around!
