Stellar

Handwoven by Lindsey Baker

Stellar features the incomparable Sea Island Cotton for its warp fiber. Most of the warp was handpainted in teals and blues and purples, the colors of the sea and space. The dark rail was dyed in skeins, in black with pops of deep blues and purples. To mimic stars, before dyeing, some areas were tied tight to resist dye, which is seen in the small pops of white/lighter colors on the dark rail. The stellina weft was dyed in a deep sapphire blue and lends this piece so much sparkle!

The weave is an original 8 shaft advancing point twill, meant to both simulate waves and clusters of stars. Overall this piece is medium in hand with amazing cush and diagonal stretch. Very moldable, but comfortable for big toddlers. The wool gives it some texture and grip.

A sister piece with dark purple/blue green tea/modal weft and FRINGE was also woven on this warp.
